Moving to Berlin

My journey from Austria to Berlin starts on the 11.11.2013 at the Grazer Airport.
The direct flight cost is 140€ one way and it took about 1h10min until arriving at Berlin Tegel airport.

The direct bus to the city- Alexanderplatz/Center costs 2,50€
From there it was a 15min walk to my rented place which I booked at the homepage airbnb.com
This homepages offers a lot of nice looking apartments for cheap prices. Amost of these places are rooms in flatshares. You will always find the profil of the place with images of the whole flat, a small discription and an image of the owner +discription as well.
Once you decided on a profil/place to rent out you have to register in the airbnb.com homepage in order to pay them 10€ Agency fee in order to get their contact details. The next step is to write a message to the owner or person who rents out the place as he or she needs to accept your enquire.

My place was a very nice looking flat in Berlin Mitte Steinstraße 10, not far away from my new job at Rosenthalerstr.38

Her name is Lisa B. from Italy who works as a travel guide in Berlin. Once I contacted Lisa she was very friendly and speaks german fluent. She help me with all the instructions how to get to her flat and once I arrived her flatmate Alessandra opened the door. She is from italy as well but I had to speak in english with her. Alessandra gave me my own pair of keys to the appartment.

Today is my 26th birthday!!!!

i spent this special day with my old friend from Austria, Alexandra, which I know since Kindergarden who lives since a few years in Berlin.

We took a looonng walk through the city and she showed me the main sights from Berlin.
The massive Church,....namenxxx
After visiting the Reichstor we decided to join a "Hop on & hopp off" bus tour.
These tour-buses are well known in nearly every bigger city on the planet, as it's the fastest way of seeing most of the famous city-sights with a tourguide explaining every single interesting spot and sight in the city.
Cost: 10€ for students 17€ normal
Time: 2h if you stay on the bus the whole time.

In the evening I went to the Saturn shop to buy a pay as you go sim card for my unlooked phone so that I'll have a phone nr in case anybody would like to call me.
The sim card costs between 3-15€ with Vodafone +a 15€ top-up.

I would like to register a phone with a contract here but before I can do that I would need a German bankaccount, which I don't have yet.

On the next day I went to Sparkasse Berlin Bank to open a German bankaccount. The only thing I needed for that was my Austrian passport and an adress where they can send me my bank-card and my security code. I gave them Lisa's adress as I can always change it afterwords I found a permanent place.
Now I can give my new Boss my new bank details for transfering the money.

I start working on Friday as it's the 15th of Nov. So mid month. @ Studio38

Today I met with my old uni-mate Rodrigo from Brazil, Sao Paulo who just moved to Berlin as well. He works as a freelancer for international comapanies so he has emglish speaking clients and it doesn't matter where he lives in the world.
Even this time last year in uni at our London College of Communication he was talking about moving to Berlin the whole time.
I didn't even know by then where I'll be or what I will do, but I kinda thought I'll find work in Australia.
Click here to find out the reasons why I couldn't get a Working-Visa as an Austrian citizen.

Rodrigo and I met at the most known sight in Berlin: The Fernsehturm / Tv tower near Alexander platz.
I highly recomment to book a ticket beforehand online in order to get a premium entrance ticket so you can skip the Q for the elevator to get up the tower.
Cost: 17€

I booked it for 15:30 in order to see the sunset at 16:15 as it gets dark very soon in autumn now already.

The fast elevator up makes your ears "pop" as it goes so fast that the pressure is the reason for it.
Inside the Fersehtower you have a walking platform inside with a glas-front where you can walk around as long as you want.

We decided to book a table upstairs, because the tables move/spin around so you will have a 360degree view from the city without walking.
The spinning platform where the tables are on go quite fast and the whole experience is really worth the money!
I ordered Ravioli with pesto for 17€ + a glas of Aperol Sprit for 7,50€

You can only book a table if you intent to eat something.
